Local professional mermaid, Hannah Pearl has written and created a children\u2019s picture book entitled \u2018Ruby Rockpool & The Garbage Patch King\u2019<\/strong> to raise awareness of the plight of our oceans, and what we can do to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book, aimed at children three to six years old features marine warrior mermaid \u2018Ruby Rockpool\u2019, who lives in Teignmouth bay, Devon. Ruby is on a mission to help save our oceans and protect marine life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story invites young readers to journey with Ruby and her friends as they travel across the oceans on a quest to defeat the Garbage Patch King whose plastic pollution is big trouble for our blue planet. The book is filled with \u2018shell facts\u2019 about marine life, as well as a serious message about marine conservation from the deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having sent the book to Sir David Attenborough, Hannah has received a personal note from the King of Conservation, wishing the book to be a great success in spreading the message of conservation. This has only inspired Hannah more, as she now urges parents to teach their children about recyclable materials whilst home-schooling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah commented: \u201cIt\u2019s been a really difficult time, and I haven\u2019t been able to do any entertaining children as a mermaid. So I sat and reflected on my passions, and saving our planet, particularly our oceans is a top priority.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is so much negative news and vibes in the world right now, being a mermaid and escaping to the life underwater soothes the soul and creates some blissfulness in these unsettling times. I wanted to bring some of that mermaid magic and joy to the world, which also included a message of conservation from the deep.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruby Rockpool is factual, educational but also fun for children. The importance of teaching young children about our environment, recyclable materials and how to treat the planet is more valuable than ever before. I wanted my fictional mermaid to be inspiring, motivating and loveable so that children can appreciate her and the important tale she tells\u201d. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u2018mermazing\u2019 book is raising vital funds for two great marine conservation charities in the UK, with \u00a32 donated from every book, split equally between Marine Conservation Society<\/strong> and Sea Shepherd UK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson from Marine Conservation Society commented; \u201cIt is inspiring to see Hannah encouraging the next generation to look after our planet so we can protect the future of our oceans and sea life.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah also teamed up with local graphic artist Becki Rendell, fellow ocean lover from Creativsquid, who brought Ruby and her friends to life in colourful vibrant graphics throughout the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
